EFA
- Extreme Flash Advance
The Extreme Flash Advance is one of the newer carts on the
market, and it is coming out from a brand new company. Though
this lack of experience may scare some peoples, the cart actually
proves to be quite good. At first glance, this may seem like
a queer piece of junk, mostly because of the purple and the USB
plugging into the actual cart, but the cart's performance proves
that looks can be deceiving.
The cart supports hardware save support for all games, including 1Mb Flash. The
cart also has very good battery power consummation, comparable with the EZ2 PowerStar.
And of course, this cart has a real-time clock support (RTC). For built quality,
the cart is very well built and I not yet heard of someone with hardware problems.
However, you must keep in mind that with EFA Linker you will not be able to dump
official GBA game cartridge ROMs onto your computer. EFA Mini USB Linker connects
directly to the mini-USB port built into the flash card and not to the GBA Link
port like other linkers do.
The cart's inner save battery recharges as you play, ala EZFA, however it will
also charge (and quicker at that too) when you plug the cart into your computer
via USB. The battery will last a couple of month before it needs
to be recharged, so if you make sure you play every week or so you should be
fine, however backing up is still recommended.
The software, is plain and simple. It will do the job, so do not worry about
crashing or things of the sorts, but you will find no gimmicks, no nice little
icons and no backgrounds, if that is what you are looking for. Nevertheless,
it does have a cheat function, auto-trimming. On the othe hand the flashing speed
is amazing. It takes about 260 seconds to flash 256Mb, which is blazing fast.
As comparison, the second fastest cart, the EZFA, takes about 300 seconds.
All in all, the EFA is a good gba flash cart, despite the rom dumping issue Has
an average software, that will still do the job quickly and efficiently.
