EZ-Flash
2 PowerStar - EZ2 PS
The EZ2 Powerstar is the first cart to integrate a cheat function
and it is the first to reduce its GBA power consummation, thus
the name Powerstar. However, though it is a "next generation" cartridge,
it still uses the old school linker, which is something that
may turn off many peoples.
The EZ2 Powerstar, along with the XG2 Turbo and XG2Trbo Plus are one of the best
flash carts to save your GBA's battery power. Compared to an EZ1, it will reduce
battery consumption by about 60%. This can be an important advantage for non-SP
GBA users, as buying batteries can get very annoying and costly. This cartridge
also features RTC real-time clock, for gba roms like Pokemon and Botkai. The
cart also features hardware save support for all kinds of saves, so no worries
about patching games here. Software will upadate automaticly if you are
connected to the internet.
Internal Save Game battery of the EZ2 PowerStar carts lasts about 2 months without
charging. General rule of thumb here would be to charge around
every month to make sure the saves are still intact, but not to get over worried
with it. When you connect to the PC you can backup the game saves using
the EZ2 Writer software and store them on HDD.
The EZ2 Powerstar is one of the few carts that comes in four sizes: 128Mb, 256Mb,
512Mb and 1Gb. The 1Gb version is coming along quite well, though you must remember
that 1Gb for GBA flash carts is relatively new, so bugs and problems are more
likely to happen then with a 256Mb or a 512Mb cart.
The official software here is very good. In fact, I would say that the EZ2 has
the best official software compared to any other flash cart. There are many features,
such as PocketNES and Goomba being already implemented in, background support
for the boot loader, a cheat function, quick flashing speeds, and everything
in a very nice user interface. The only problem with the EZ2 for software is
that it does not support Pogoshell, which may not even be a problem, given the
calibre of the official software.
The EZ2 Powerstar is a good cart, but with minor flaws. Old school external linker
may turn off some people. However, these problems
are nothing to be worried about, and the excellent software and hardware make
up for them.
