F2A
ULRA : Flash2Advance Ultra
The Flash2Advance Ultra is a revolutionary flash card that
brought a lot of excitement with it when it first came out. Because
of Visoly's great reputation, the fact that the cart can hold
up to 1 Giga bit or roms, and the real-time saving, this little
cart really stirred things up. The question is, does it live
up to its hype?
The hardware has a real-time clock rtc, uses low power consummation, has a cheat
function, and the inner save battery is the same as the original F2A, meaning
you will never have to recharge it until the day it dies and that is arround
3 years from now. The F2A Ultra also exclusively features a real-time save function,
which is slowly coming along as a pretty cool feature, though the list of games
that are compatible with the RTS is relatively limited but with evry update to
teh software new compatible gba roms are added to the list.
F2A Power Writer software for F2A Ultra has come a long way,
but it could still use some work. It used to be very unstable,
but after it was completely rewritten it does not crash anymore.
The loader is a bit ugly, and it isn't the best software
out there, but it will do the job.
For the saving, the cart has a huge 8M of SRAM, though 2M are
reserved for the real-time saving function. Though 6M would
still be enough, the designers decided to make things even
better by using way similar to Pogoshell's to zip compress
saves, meaning you can have an almost unlimited amount of saves
on your gba flash cart.
All in all with bugs in the software and first release of the carts being long
fixed we have passed the biggest part of the storm, and the F2A Ultra is actually
turning out to be a decent cart.
